"Meltingly fine music!" Verity Sharp - Late Juncion, BBC Radio 3 Traditional ballads and tunes are interwoven with new and exciting compositions! Fiddles, voice, English-bagpipes, melodeon, concertina, piano, clarinet and whistles blend seamlessly to form a distinctive and compelling sound. Traditional dance music and song with lush fiddle harmonies, rhythmic drive and passion! For this ensemble, each band member has composed new work – this has been made possible by the PRS Foundation, whose support through ATOM awards has greatly helped all four young composers to flourish.
JDB performing at Towersey Festival John Dipper ~ fiddle, low fiddle & concertina John is,“A player of great clarity and depth.”(Chris Wood). John is also a member of several other bands and ensembles including The English Acoustic Collective, whose debut album Ghosts, has recently been described as,“Sheer unflustered brilliance!” by Verity Sharp of BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction. John is also a third of Patterson Jordan Dipper, a band that has been described as,“Very special. . . worth driving 200 miles to see and hear.”by Living Tradition magazine. Martyn Wyndham-Read, whom John accompanies, in No Man’s Band describes John’s playing as,“Verylyrical and perceptive – A very talented and respected young performer.” Michael Beeke ~ English border pipes & whistles Superb English border pipe player, Michael is, “A sensitive and compelling musician, whose skilful playing redefines the bagpipes as a musical instrument!”(Paul Scourfield). James Tween ~ melodeon James is a recent Sidmouth melodeon Champion, “An outstanding player, and exciting new hope for English melodeon playing.”(Andy Cutting). Alice Jones ~ vocals, clarinet, piano & whistles Alice’s warm and inspiring vocals show that she is,“Confident in her choice of challenging songs, sung with passion and a maturity beyond her years.” (Pete Coe). |
